We know that green juices, green powders, lemon water, and exercise can all help the body to naturally detoxify. But do you know of the benefits of Infrared Saunas (IR)?! These saunas differ from traditional saunas which simply heat the body from the outside in – by warming the air first. IR saunas work by using infrared waves to heat the bodies core temperature first – working from the inside-out. IR saunas help your body release a number of toxins, including heavy metals like mercury and lead, and environmental chemicals.

“Focus on how far up the mountain you have climbed, rather than looking at how far you have got left to go” (quote by…me!) When was the last time you took time to celebrate your many, many, many accomplishments? We spend a lot of time obsessing about the future and what we still don’t have and are lacking. Whether it is more money, more holidays, a bigger house, faster car, flatter tummy, longer hair...OK you get it. We can very often get stuck in a cycle of planning to be happy “I will be happy when…(fill in the blank)”. But what’s wrong with today?! The chances are if we cannot feel content today, in the present moment, we will not feel any better or happier when we get to the “when” .

Yes! Another pesto recipe! Why? Because they are so quick and versatile and its a pretty sneaky way to add concentrated nutrition into any meal! So what do you do with your curly carrot tops?! They are far too pretty to throw away and too nutritious. They contain 6x the vitamin C of the root and are also high in other vitamins and trace minerals such as potassium and vitamin K.

Have you ever fallen in love with an activity aka a hobby, outlet, creative endeavour, or passion? I certainly have and I hope you have too, and that you know the joy of falling in love with such a thing at least once in your life. Passions and hobbies provide people with an outlet for escape, personal expression and exploration, distraction, and meditation. It can change the way one views themselves, their loved ones, and the world around them. It can boost emotional wellbeing and, depending on the hobby, one’s physical health.

Summer is on the way! Well, at least that’s what the weather report says. So, get ready for the mini-UK heatwave with these tasty vegan and refined-sugar-free lollies. This supercharged lolly is delicious and rather beautiful! Full of berry goodness so that you can eat it for breakfast! The sweetness of the berry powders combined with the fresh berries help to sweeten this lolly naturally so there is no need for much added sweetener at all. This is one of those sneaky recipes that really does not taste what you might call “healthy” – but totally is! I also love to add chia seeds in for the added fibre and Omega-3 oils. I think it also makes the lolly look even more exciting!

Wild garlic is literally my most favourite ingredient this time of year. Its growing season is so short that our fridge is always stocked up with a wild garlic pesto throughout spring. The pungent leaf is so versatile that it can be used to stir through a risotto, put in a salad or soup or simply popped in a toastie! My favourite way with wild garlic is - pesto. No contest.

Sometimes I just want something chocolatey! Ever get that feeling?! I tend to feel like this particularly post workout where I crave something sweet, rich and filling. So I have been experimenting with various vegan protein powders and ingredients and I have to say this one is by far my favourite! Packed with healthy fats, added fibre, super-foods and maca. Anyone who knows me will know I am a huge fan of this adaptogen, from Peru, which improves energy, mood, and the bodies ability to deal with stressors.

With 1 in 8 women in the UK likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer within their lifetime it’s more important than ever to become breast aware. The readily available information on self-examination, free mammograms for the over 50’s, and all the work done by various charities to ensure that women are more in tune with abnormal changes associated with their breasts is certainly progress in an attempt to increase early detection and therefore reduce the need for invasive treatments. However, there is still much debate about which screening tool or method is the best.

Ok, so I mentioned that in completing my #5things@5am challenge I was due to start another challenge. Well, this is it. Intermittent fasting is simply abstaining from food (or drink of caloric value) for a set number of hours each day. Usually this ratio is 16/8; 16 hours not eating with an 8-hour eating window. 5 things @ 5am - The 21-day challenge! Hooray! Today is day 21 and marks the completion of my 3-week challenge during which time I have embraced the concept of waking up at 5am in order to help achieve my goals. And all done within the quietest hours of the day. According to Ayurvedic practice – this is also the most auspicious time of the day (4am-6am approximately). This time is called Brahma Muhurta.

Mushrooms Anyone? I will be honest. I have never been a fan of these slimy fungi. So why would I now, after all these years, put them in my lattes? The answer is simple. Mushrooms have been shown to be one of the most powerful functional foods that help prevent and fight cancer. Medicinal mushrooms have been used in ancient Asia to help with a huge range of ailments.

Keep germs at bay this Christmas! Regular anti-bacterial gels contain toxic and harmful ingredients that can do more harm than good. They often increase the chance of dermatitis too.

Wow! Oh What a Night!! A huge thank you to everyone who made Beyond Breast Cancer's Launch night a success! There was raw vegan chocolate, activated tamari nuts will chilli, super juices and smoothies. The night was shared with family, old friends and new. We had a lot of giggles and a few heart felt tears too... Foodies Rock really did rock it! A funky venue with an awesome vibe...and did you try the vegan puri's. Authentic Indian street food at its best!

Happy Monday Morning!! I am starting the day with this Green Slammer made from freshly pressed wheatgrass (thank you to all the parents for continuing with this production!) and cucumber. Mmmmmm!!!  Down in one on an empty stomach, then follow by a wedge of lemon!

My daughter, Asara, sat still while I tried to fish-plait her hair this morning and said to me, “Mummy. We should say thank you to the cows”. She paused to make sure I was listening and then continued; “Because they give us milk and we have milk everyday”. I smiled at her and thanked her for reminding me to show gratitude to the very things that provide us with sustenance.

My daughter, Asara, who has just started in Reception, came home from school today and said she was up to 11 friends now! Very proud of herself! When I asked her to name them, she did. The first name was her own.
